Paid to Cook

I always believed that household work should be counted as any other work. I know that the work of being a mom and raising the kids is priceless but the experts from salary.com did a solid research and came up with real values of how much should a mom earn in a year of house work. The figures for the year of  2010 were $117,856 a year for stay-at-home moms and  $72,000 a year for working moms. So why not let the moms get this actual value in money in order to improve the quality of their families' lives? Good question to be asked to policy making people! hahaha

I was reading today on the New York Times an article called Pay People to Cook at Home by Kristan Wartman that touch on this topic and she suggests an amazing proposal to once an for all implement good eating habits at home. If the only way for people to be eat better and live a healthy life is by cooking their own food, Wartman has the solution.
Below is the most interesting paragraph from the article that will make you think that we really need better, honest, humble people in the right place in congress. I know this proposal might sound unfeasible, but in fact is not. It will only be unreasonable if we don't believe is possible!!!

To get Americans cooking, we need to make it possible. Stay-at-home parents should qualify for a new government program while they are raising young children — one that provides money for good food, as well as education on cooking, meal planning and shopping — so that one parent in a two-parent household, or a single parent, can afford to be home with the children and provide wholesome, healthy meals. These payments could be financed by taxing harmful foods, like sugary beverages, highly caloric, processed snack foods and nutritionally poor options at fast food and other restaurants. Directly linking a tax on harmful food products to a program that benefits health would provide a clear rebuttal to critics of these taxes. Business owners who argue that such taxes will hurt their bottom lines would, in fact, benefit from new demand for healthy food options and from customers with money to spend on such foods.
