NYC Wholesome Restaurants

I decided to do this post because many of the people who came to my classes asked me for restaurants tips in NY that serve healthy, vegetarian, vegan, macrobiotic, ayurvedic, organic and delicious foods. So below are some choices for you to explore a new way of eating and for some of you, just to have more ideas on what to go for.
I haven't been to all of them but I for the ones I haven't been I only hear amazing things about it. So I think they worth a spot on the list!

Angelica Kitchen
Organic Vegan
300 E 12th Street @ 2nd Ave.

Great organic vegan food and desserts. People won't even miss dairy or meat.
Cash only, do not take reservations and the get packed after 7pm.
Favorite dishes: Tempeh Ruben and Soba Sensation

Candle Café
Vegan Café
1307 3rd Ave @ 75th Street

A very casual place to eat, with a great juice bar and great vegan choices on the menu. Just be careful not to overdo with the desserts. They are very tasty but in some of them they use a vegan shortening (earth's best) which can be translated as highly processed ingredient.

Candle 79
Gourmet Vegan
154 E 79th Street btwn Lex & 3rd Ave

Due to the fancy ambiance it is a good place to go for a first vegan date or formal business meeting.
Favorite Dish: BBQ Seitan Sandwich with Polenta Fries

Caravan of Dreams
Vegan Café
405 E 6th Street btwn 1st Ave and Ave A

I am not a big fan of the menu, but the restaurant has a good vibe for a Friday night with live music on the background.

Gobo
Ecletic Vegetarian
West Village- 401 6th Ave btwn Waverly Place and 8th Street
Upper East Side- 1426 3rd Ave btwn 81st Street

Nice juice bar with great juice mixtures.
Favorite Dish: Homemade Veggie burguer with yam fries.

Hummus Place
Vegetarian Middle Eastern
East Village - 109 Saint Mark's Place btwn 1st Ave. and Ave. A
West Village - 71 7th Ave. South @ Bleeker St.
Upper West Side - 2608 Broadway btwn 98th and 99th St.
Upper West Side - 305 Amsterdam Ave. btwn West 74th and 75th St

Very tasteful and fresh food. They serve a quinoa tabuli salad with lots of parsley just the way I love it. And to accompanied that a plate of hummus and falafel can just make your night. It is a good idea to order many different plates and share with everyone on the table. Their plate size are great for sharing.
Favorite Dish: Falafel and Quinoa Tabuli salad

Le Pain Quotidien
Organic Wholesome Boulangerie
Several locations around the city.
Uptown, Midtown, Downtown, Brooklyn

I suggest to go to their website to take a look at their several locations and find the one nearest you!
Great for breakfast, brunch and snacks. They have a great 100% spelt bread and they used to have the best chocolate granola that my friend Manu had the mean idea to present it to me. It was the very delicious and addictive. But you can still find some healthy granola not made with refined sugar there.

Liquiteria
Juice Bar
170 second avenue @ 11th street

I have to be honest that I always order my combination of juice which is kale, celery, green apple, lemon and ginger and it's delicious. But they have a great variety of smoothies, green juices, vegetables juices as well as sandwiches and soups. So it is a nice place to stop by for a quick snack.

Souen
Organic Asian Macrobiotic
SoHo - 210 6th Ave @ Prince Street
Union Square - 28 E 13th Street btwn University & 5th Ave.
East Village - 326 E 6th Street btwn 1st and 2nd Ave.

Great for people to be introduced to the macrobiotic philosophy and way of eating. Very tasteful food.
Favorite dish: Maze Rice with Salmon

The Juice Press
Juice Bar and Raw food
They have several locations throughout NYC so I think it is a good idea to go to their website and find the nearest location for you.

The Waverly Inn

Seasonal American
16 Bank Street @ Waverly Place

They serve organic and seasonal foods. It's a nice place to have a non vegetarian meal since all the meats they serve are organic, grass-fed, wild fish, etc.
You are also prompt to find some celebs dining out there. It is a good spot for a healthy fancy night out!!!

Viva Herbal Pizzeria
Vegetarian Kosher Pizzeria
179 2nd Ave btwn 11th and 12th Street

A good place to get delivery but not so much to eat in. Ask for spelt or cornmeal crust instead of whole wheat, you won't be feeling as heavy as with the whole wheat crust.
Favorite dish: Bella Pizza

Below are the restaurants that I've never been but I only hear great things about them.

Ayurveda Café
Ayurvedic, vegetarian-friendly
706 Amsterdam Ave @ 94th St

Mana
Asian Macrobiotic
646 Amsterdam Ave btwn 91st & 92nd St

Omen
Japanese
113 Thompson Street @ Prince St.

Pure Food and Wine
Gourmet Raw Vegan
54 Irving Place btwn 17th & 18th Street

Quintessence
Raw Vegan Food
263 E 10th Street

  2. Oi Camila,
